To my knowledge there is neither a ac3 nor a dts acm codec (all are direct show and not usable by vdub). Go to Video > Compression (or Ctrl+P) to compress the output video. VirtualDub is entirely vfw (Video for Windows) based, so it needs vfw compatible codecs for video and acm (Audio Compression Manager) compatible codecs for sound. If you don’t do it, an input clip of 10 MB may result in a 200 MB video. Start VirtualDub by running the VirtualDub.exe file and open a file with File > Open (or Ctrl+O).
